Many will snuggle on the couch with you or even invite themselves into your bed under the covers.
A miniature Schnauzer will likely never leave your side as soon as you introduce him to your house. They will follow you into every room and never like closed doors. This was especially true of our first two mini schnauzers!

They thrive when they are in the company of people and will be at their happiest when they are surrounded by their family. If you are looking for a lovable dog to join your family, then this is a perfect breed to choose from.

However, all Schnauzers and especially miniature Schnauzers naturally love to be part of a family unit and they are at their happiest when they are surrounded by people. They will never want to be left alone for very long.

Each Schnauzer type is usually loving and affectionate in their own way, but miniature Schnauzers are typically the most cuddly and personable.
Other types of Schnauzers (the Giant and the Standard) tend to show their affection and adoration for their owners by being protective, but miniature Schnauzers love to cuddle as they were not bred to guard and protect. Not that miniature Schnauzers always know this!
Miniature schnauzers are a naturally lovable and social breed, they will love to cuddle up to their owners on the couch in the evening. However, each dog will be different too and early training and socialization can help to bring out the best character in your miniature Schnauzer.
The most popular type of Schnauzer is the miniature Schnauzer and they are constantly ranked at the top of the list of popular dogs in America. This may be because of their cuddly and affectionate nature.
They will love to snuggle in close to you whether you are lying in bed or sitting on the couch while watching television. Mini Schnauzers are even entertaining and affectionate (with consistent, proper training) to be service dogs like I’ve written about here.
They would like to make themselves as comfortable as possible beneath blankets on the couch next to you or even on your lap. They will love to spend their chill time relaxing next to you.
If you take your Miniature Schnauzer for a long walk in the outdoors, you can expect him to cuddle with you on the couch for the next few hours when you get home.
Miniature Schnauzer Exercise and Playtime
However, this does not mean that Miniature Schnauzers are typical lap dogs. They require a lot of exercise because of their active and energetic nature.
Just because a miniature Schnauzer may love to relax next to you in the evenings, he also needs a lot of exercise and activity through walks and playtime.
They will often also show their affection and loyalty when they play. Due to their small size, they are relatively easy to exercise and play with and they are intelligent, so they enjoy being challenged by new games.
Miniature Schnauzers don’t tend to show their affection or love through guarding, unlike standard or Giant Schnauzers. Rather, they will show their affection through cuddles as well as during playtime.

Miniature Schnauzers can sometimes be affected by the high pitched noises of children, however, this is easily solved if you raise your Schnauzer puppy around children. If your miniature Schnauzer grows up around children this will likely never become an issue.
Miniature Schnauzers are fun, entertaining, and lovable. They are a good and safe size if you do have small children.
This type of schnauzer is also perfect for elderly people. They are affectionate and great companions that can provide emotional support.

Miniature Schnauzers have a double coat that consists of a wiry topcoat and a softer undercoat. They require a lot of frequent grooming, brushing, and combing to keep it looking its best, however it does shed little so they are perfect for laying close to you.
Note: These dogs do need to be washed regularly because they do not shed often.
They need regular grooming including frequent brushing, nail cutting, and ear cleaning. It may be necessary to have your miniature Schnauzer groomed by a professional and comb them once a week yourself between groomer trips.

Some Schnauzers can tend to be territorial and will often try to guard their owners from strangers (like our family’s third schnauzer). However, this will depend on the individual dog and any territorial or aggressive behavior can be eased by early training and socialization.
However, miniature Schnauzers do tend to be more laid back and will get on with other people. They will usually bark at strange people and other dogs until they are sure that they do not present a threat.
It is important to socialize your Schnauzer in a variety of different situations from an early age so that it becomes used to guests, strangers, and other dogs.
When you first introduce your puppy to your family, invite friends and family over so that he can get used to having guests around him in his own house. Get him comfortable with guests by having your friends and family pet him.
